Zhejiang Ocean University, Zhoushan, China

On 28-31 October 2019 the Zhejiang Ocean University (ZJOU) in Zhoushan will host the First Global Conference on Ocean Fronts and Eddies. The Conference will cover all aspects of marine science, technology, and applications relevant to most diverse fronts and eddies of any scale and physical nature. Presentations on observational, theoretical, modeling, and laboratory studies are equally welcome.

Conference Format:

The Conference’s format features a few novelties:

  1. Every speaker will have an opportunity to also present a poster.

  2. All posters will be printed at the ZJOU at no charge.

  3. Every 90-min. session will be followed by a 30-min. poster session.

  4. Every participant could post a PDF paper on the Conference Web site.

Conference duration: 4 full days of 15-min. plenary talks (12 min. talk, followed by a 3 min. Q&A, followed by a poster session during coffee break). Every day starts at 9 am and ends at 6 pm, leaving plenty of time for interaction with colleagues and exploration of the island’s night life and cuisine.

Venue and Transportation:

Zhoushan is the Ocean Garden City in a subtropical paradise on a sprawling archipelago of countless mountainous evergreen islands. Zhoushan prides itself as the Seafood Capital of China. The city can be reached from Shanghai by plane (45-min. flight), train, or bus (4-hour trip around the majestic Hangzhou Bay). The Shanghai Pudong International Airport handles tens of international flights every day, including non-stop flights from major cities in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Weather:

October is perhaps the best time to visit Zhoushan. During this time, the air temperature varies between 17°C and 24°C, while monthly precipitation drops down to 100 mm. The average duration of daylight is 11.5 hours, and these hours are mostly sunny. The Zhoushan Island has a distinct climate, with fresh, breezy, clean oceanic air, free of industrial pollution and smog.

Registration fees:

Regular registration: RMB 1000; student registration: RMB 500.

You may apply for a reduction or exemption of the registration fee.

Visas:

Participants should check visa regulations on China’s embassies Web sites.

Lodging:

Zhoushan has numerous world-class hotels. Shuttles will be provided for participants at every hotel.
