Welcome to the ICOFE-1(2019)

Welcome to the ICOFE-1

Conference Venue

The First International Conference on Ocean Fronts and Eddies wil be held at Grand Barony Zhoushan, hosted by Zhejiang Ocean University during 27-31 October 2019. We invite you to submit abstracts of your presentations (oral or poster). The submission deadline is October 5 2019.

Conference overview

The Conference will cover all aspects of the science and research technologies relevant to understanding fronts and eddies of any scale in any marine environment. This includes the physical nature and processes of these phenomena, and related biophysical interactions that influence the ecology of marine life. Presentations on observational, theoretical, modelling, and laboratory studies are equally welcome.

Session Themes

Front Detection from Satellites

Biophysical Interactions at Fronts

Mesoscale Eddies

Submesoscale Eddies

Simulation of Eddies and Fronts in Circulation Models

A special session on Novel technology applications is planned, with a strong emphasis on successful demonstrations at fronts and in eddies

The ecological effects of Fronts on shelves and estuaries.  Inculding matter transport, water quality, productivity, and biodiversity.

More special sessions could be added according to participants’ interests.

Zhejiang Ocean University

Enjoying the joint sponsorship and co-construction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang Ocean University (ZJOU) was established in 1958, as a provincial key institution which features itself with Fishery and Marine disciplines. With 60 years of history, ZJOU is now recognized as a multidisciplinary oceanic university which focuses on marine and fishery sciences and coordinates well in the development of science, engineering, agriculture, economics, management, and education. It has made important contributions to the cultivation of marine talents, scientific and technological innovation, industrial upgrading and cultural heritage in eastern China, especially in Zhejiang Province.

Second Institute of Oceanography, MNR, China

Second Institute of OceanographySIO, Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) of China, was established in 1966 and has developed into a non-profit oceanographic research institute with comprehensive disciplines, strong scientific and technological capabilities and advanced equipment support. It is mainly engaged in marine scientific researches on China seas, oceans and polar regions as well as the R & D and application of high technology for marine environmental protection and resources exploration.

South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS,China

The South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) was founded in 1959. It is one of the largest marine research institutes in China and is also a participant in CAS’s Knowledge Innovation Program.  The key disciplinary areas at SCSIO are tropical marine environmental dynamics and ecosystems; marginal sea geological evolution and energy resources; sustainable utilization of tropical marine biological resources; and monitoring of the marine environment. The institute’s research focuses on the structure and evolution of the hydrosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere in tropical marginal seas and their interaction with each other; the influence of these interactions on natural resources and environmental change; and the development of a unique model for the South China Sea in order to understand its environment and exploit its marine resources. The institute has also conducted research on marine mineral and biological resources, marine engineering, and marine environmental appraisal and forecasting.

Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology

Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) is on the list of China’s """"Double First-class"""" construction universities and disciplines as well as Jiangsu high level universities. It was founded in 1960 and renamed from Nanjing Institute of Meteorology in 2004. It was designated in 1978 as one of the key institutions of higher learning in China. Since 2007, NUIST has been co-constructed successively by the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA). It is also co-established by the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and the State Oceanic Administration (SOA).
